Manifesto update Dec 2024
We recently attended a meeting with the Minister for Patient Safety, Women’s Health and Mental Health, Baroness Merron, to discuss sodium valproate and the potential redress scheme for those harmed by valproate.
The Baroness is looking to formulate the Government’s response to the recommendations of the Hughes Report, including the creation of a redress scheme for those harmed by valproate. We will continue working to ensue that those harmed by valproate get the compensation they deserve.
In Northern Ireland, we met with Colin McGarth MLA, the Health Spokesperson for the Social Democratic and Labour Party, to discuss how we can work together to make sure that any redress scheme announced by the Government includes Northern Ireland.
We will keep you updated with our progress.
The issues
Health and social care: We need epilepsy to be prioritised within health and social care and the shortage of specialist nurses and neurologists to be addressed.
Justice: We need justice for the most vulnerable people with epilepsy to ensure everyone is treated fairly.
Work and benefits: People with epilepsy need to be empowered to access work and benefits so they are able to live independently.
Our manifesto was created with support from the Neurological Alliance and INQUEST.
