Epilepsy Action was shortlisted for a Royal College of Midwifery (RCM) Award for Partnership Working alongside the NHS North West Midwifery Team.
Members of the organisation attended the event on 18 October 2024 at the Brewery London.
Leah Norton, engagement and project coordinator at Epilepsy Action, said being shortlisted for the RCM award is “huge recognition” for the work of the partnership, which “highlights the impact third sector can have.”
The collaboration wanted to improve outcomes for women with epilepsy in pregnancy. This is after recent evidence highlighted risks to this group, as well as risks of some epilepsy medicines to babies in the womb.
The project has established networking between the North West Midwifery Team and different organisations, and benchmarking, using national guidelines.
Epilepsy Action also helped host listening events for service users and clinicians, helped link maternity services with epilepsy specialist nurses, GPs and neurologists, and created an expert panel.
Norton added: “Whilst we didn’t win this year, I am so incredibly proud of the whole team for our nomination!”
A full report on the project will be released towards the end of the year.
