13 year old Mason-Brian Cooper has been given this month’s Epilepsy Star Award. Mason-Brian has defied the odds throughout his life and has proved that ‘anything is possible’. He was diagnosed with epilepsy at birth, and has suffered from numerous other health problems. Despite everything, the devoted big brother always stays positive. His mum, Gemma, shares his story.

“Mason-Brian is truly an inspiration. No matter what he is going through, he always has a big smile on his face. There were many times where doctors thought he would not make it, but he has always proved them wrong. He has taught me that anything is possible. He is my hero and always will be.

“The last year has been really tough for Mason- Brian. After a bad seizure in the Autumn, he was hospitalized, which was really hard. He came home a couple months later, but then suffered from a cardiac arrest and had to go back into hospital. He finally came home in February this year and is finally starting to get better. His seizures are more under control with his new medication, but he is still struggling with his other health problems. We are just so grateful to have him back home and in his own bed.

“Mason-Brian has always been an amazing big brother. Even with all of his struggles, he adores his younger brother Bryson. They have a special bond and Mason-Brian adores watching Bryson play. Bryson almost always falls asleep next to his big brother. They are both truly amazing
