The Department of Health and Social Care has told us there is a supply issue affecting all strengths of Convulex (valproic acid) capsules.
Update on 6 January 2020:
Convulex (valproic acid) capsules are likely to be out of stock until April 2020. This shortage is due to a change in pack size leading to a supply delay.
If you take Convulex, please contact your doctor to discuss your treatment options. Your doctor may need to prescribe you a different manufacturer’s version of valproic acid or a different type of epilepsy medicine. The Department of Health and Social Care has written to healthcare professionals with advice about alternatives to Convulex.
Original story 20 December 2019: The 500mg capsules are out of stock, and there is limited supply of the 150mg and 300mg capsules.
We will update this page when we know more about this situation. If you have concerns about running out of your medicine, please speak to your GP, epilepsy specialist nurse or epilepsy specialist for advice.
